KEFALONIA

We arrived in Kefalonia 1.40pm after a two hour Easyjet flight from Milan (an extra timezone ahead of Italy).  On arrival we straightaway noticed the heat and higher humidity.  We got our bags and then a taxi into town where we are staying while we are here.

On Thursday morning we hired scooters for the three days we are here so we can get out and explore the island.  Some of the scenery we saw was simply stunning - panoramic vistas of the turquoise ocean meeting lush green cliffs, bougainvilleas hanging over whitewashed buildings, goats roaming back roads... you get the picture, or maybe not so we will show some below!  Our scooters definitely were handy, we could pull up to packed out beaches and just slot our scooters in a park right near the beach where there'd be no room for cars.  Also the roads are all narrow and winding with a max speed of 60 km/h so we were more than keeping up with cars and even overtaking them on downhill sections!

Argostoli - the capital and largest town on the island.  We caught a ferry across the harbour to Lixouri to save a 1 hour drive all the way around

Mt Ainos - 1,682m above sea level!  The highest point on Kefalonia

We spent all of Saturday biking around the island again. We biked up Mt Ainos which is 1,682m in altitude, it was freezing at the top and wish we had warmer clothes. As we descended down the mountain we began to thaw out. We were getting pushed for time so we had to race back to the bike rental place as they were picking up the bikes at 5pm. Unsurprisingly they were not on time. and had to wait around again while we were keeping the taxi man waiting.

We ended up getting a Taxi to Sami as the bus schedule had changed and the latest bus was leaving at 1315. It was just a set fee so he was more than happy to wait while they came to collect the bikes.
We arrived in Sami, checked into our accommodation and then explored the shops. We had dinner on the waterfront. We got food from the area - I had a goat meat pie and Dalton had Rabbit. Both delicious. While we were having dinner there was an old fishing boat with an elderly man feeding the little fish with bread. He was casting a wee line with bread on the end and catching little fish. After some time his grandson joined him, it was the cutest thing.
